The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) provides healthcare benefits to central government employees, pensioners, and their eligible family members, primarily in designated cities. Eligibility generally extends to serving and retired central government employees, their families, Members of Parliament, former Vice Presidents, and certain other categories like Delhi Police and Railway Board employees. 
 
Specific categories of individuals eligible for CGHS:
  • Central Government Employees: Serving employees and their eligible family members residing in CGHS covered areas. 
     
Central Government Pensioners: Pensioners and their eligible family members who receive pensions from Central Civil Estimates. 
 
Members of Parliament: Both sitting and former Members of Parliament. 
 
Ex-Governors and Lt. Governors: Former Governors and Lieutenant Governors. 
 
Freedom Fighters: Freedom fighters who receive a central pension. 
 
Ex-Vice Presidents: Former Vice Presidents. 
 
Judges: Sitting and former Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts. 
 
Certain Autonomous Organizations: Employees and pensioners of certain autonomous bodies in Delhi. 
 
Delhi Police Personnel: Personnel of the Delhi Police who are posted in Delhi. 
 
Railway Board Employees: Employees of the Railway Board. 
 
Journalists: Accredited journalists with the Press Information Bureau (in Delhi). 
 
Key points about CGHS eligibility:
Residence:
Eligibility often depends on residing in a city where CGHS facilities are available. 
 
Dependents:
Family members, including dependent parents, siblings, and children, are generally covered under the scheme. 
 
Card:
A valid CGHS card is required to avail of the benefits. 
 
Pensioners:
Pensioners, including those under the New Pension Scheme (NPS), are eligible if they meet specific criteria regarding qualifying service. 
 
Dual Benefits:
Individuals cannot simultaneously benefit from CGHS and other government health schemes like Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, according to the National Health Authority.
